Green Jobs Training Emerges in Arizona

by Green Jobs Ready on March 15, 2011

According to journalist Michelle Ye Hee Lee, writing for The Arizona Republic, three employment training and recruiting agencies located in central Arizona are offering approximately 900 slots for Arizona residents to sign up to receive training and certification for various capacities as green jobs workers within renewable and alternative energy industries, free of charge. The offers to train new green workers come as experts predict expansive growth for green industry in general in Arizona, according to Lee.

Lee writes that the agencies received roughly half of a federal grant totaling $6 million dollars which was awarded to the State Energy Sector Partnership program.

The agencies, which apparently aim to both “provide job opportunities for Arizonans and to help expand the state’s energy industry,” have reported collectively that approximately 400 of the 900 available training slots have already been filled.

Maricopa Workforce Connections, a training and employment agency, is also seeking out potential green jobs workers for participation in the program, Lee reports.

Patrick Burkhart, an assistant director for Maricopa Workforce Connections, expressed his optimism with regard to the growth of green industries in Arizona.

“One of the bright spots in terms of near-term economic recovery for Arizona is in the manufacturing sector, and a very significant subset of that manufacturing is going to be in the solar arena,” Burkhart is quoted by Lee as saying.
