WHAT ARE THEY?
The easy way to explain an offshore wind turbine, is a set of turbines that are located off the shore, typically sitting out amongst water. While this might seem a bit strange, the abundance of wind along the shorelines makes it a wonderful option to pick up a significant increase in wind power, while avoiding many of the eyesore problems that upset people about wind farms. By getting the benefit of a beautiful skyline, while still providing the energy that is needed, offshore wind turbines are increasing in popularity and will likely become one of the most common usages for turbines.
With only a few offshore wind turbines capable of producing enough power to run an entire city, the usage of these turbines is increasing since they are producing a large amount of power. While a standard turbine might not have much wind, when placed offshore the amount of wind typically increases which offers a significantly higher amount of wind power to produce. Making sure that the best options possible are followed is important and has found that many areas are moving the turbines off of the short to help with improving production.
